MAKE A STATEMENT

This month has been all about snow and sleet, so you would surely make a statement with these beautiful vintage accessories adorned on you during this winter. And for any other season for that matter! I personally would love to own each piece of jewellery.

Blue Valentine...

... is an independent film starring Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, it is currently playing at the Sundance Festival. These two actors are two very poignant actors who are so versatile. They are gems in the world of cinema. I am looking so much forward to this movie!

"Blue Valentine is an intimate, shattering portrait of a disintegrating marriage.

On the far side of a once-passionate romance, Cindy (Michelle Williams) and Dean (Ryan Gosling) are married with a young daughter. Hoping to save their marriage, they steal away to a theme hotel. We then encounter them years earlier, when they met and fell in love—full of life and hope.

Moving fluidly between these two time periods, Blue Valentine unfolds like a cinematic duet whose refrain asks, where did their love go? Framing the film as a mystery whose answer lies scattered in time (and in character), filmmaker Derek Cianfrance constructs an elegant set of dualities: past and present, youth and adulthood, vitality and entropy. The rigor of his process is visible throughout the film. Eliminating artificial devices, he has only the truth of the characters to work with. Because Gosling and Williams bring amazing intensity and emotional honesty to their roles, the experience of connecting to these two souls becomes truly moving."

The question, where did their love go, is so vital. Movies are based on this question, but it is rare that we get a raw explanation of where it went? Either somebody changes and their spouse can't adjust to these changes, or a third party is involved and the candle of love goes out just like that. I have not seen this movie, but from reading this synopsis, I am thinking we are seeing the evolution of the love between Cindy and Dean. And that is reason enough for me to see how it pans out.

Are there any movies you are looking forward to see?

Make a donation and help countless of victims of the earthquake in Haiti! (13.01.2010)

My  and prayers go out to the victims of this horrible tragedy.

must have!

I hate wearing lipstick, and lipgloss isn't nice for a person who has long hair and likes to ride bicycles. I prefer lip balm, it looks more healthy and natural. Very recently, I ordered two lip tints from Flourish bath and body. And they are amazing! In the midst of procrastinating, I took this poor self-portrait wearing the redwood lip tint. It only costs $6!

From the description in the little shop owned by Brooke Marton:

"Will they last all day, through eating, drinking, kissing and clarinet practice? Nope. (They also won't do your taxes or make you look 10 lbs thinner.) But I think you will prefer reapplying this smooth and light gloss vs. having sticky petroleum-based goop on your lips all day (did I mention these are made from natural ingredients?)"

That pretty much says it all!

A haven.

I am the kind of girl who doesn't like speaking for the future. It is all about living in the moment. Tomorrow is a mystery. However, I make one exception. Whenever I see a piece of furniture or piece of art, I imagine how it would look in the apartment, I'd like to own in the future, with a high ceiling.

Isabelle McNally is an actress, who I am not familiar with. Regardless, she has invited the readers of The Selby into her home sometime in 2008.

Her bedroom is a little too messy, but I absolutely adore her timeless furniture, and that she has so much colour and nature in her home. It is very inviting, artsy (which tells so much about the owner) and comfortable. It is a haven... with a high ceiling. I love it!

spring and summer inspiration!

It is so cold here in Denmark right now. I was walking around the heart of Copenhagen with some friends this noon, and let me tell you this, I adore snow, but I also appreciate blood running through my veins. So now I am going to bask in these pictures from Rachel Comey's spring collection 2010.

grey skies out, vivid roses in.

I love rain, however, grey skies can be mood altering. And right now, my closet is a mess of greys, black and dark blue. I have no resolutions this year, I never keep them anyway, but I do have one thing that I would like to change! I want to be inspired by the beautiful french actress, Cécile Cassel and her beautiful red dress. This year should be all about red lips and colours. For me at least.

apple blossom

apple blossom

A limited edition fragrance, apple blossom, from The Body Shop. It is so subtle, but it wakes the senses with its fruitiness. Earlier I found a similar bottle, only with a new name, but the same fragrance. Lovely.
